Rushin' Rewind Column:

My short lived career in oil was 'crude'
      April 8, 1988:
By Jeff Rushin/chilliblogger I was a news reporter at the Chilli Bulletin:
Jeff Rushin
... And up though the ground came a bubbling crude. Black gold. Texas tea. Oil that is."
And while it wasn't the Bugtussle, Tennessee -- the home of the TV family the Clampitts, but it certainly wasn't Beverly Hills either. I came upon my own 'oil gusher' when I responded to a call on the police scanner while sitting at home that night.
AS AN AMBITIOUS cub reporter, I was the first one to arrive on the scene at this rural neighborhood (Woodland Heights), about 10 miles west from where I lived. The subdivision, which is located southwest of the Mossville Caterpillar plant, is situated on an oil pipeline.
My white 1986 Chevrolet Celebrity was speckled in black as I approached what appeared from a distance to be a black tornado running through a neighborhood on a night with a clear Spring sky. It was my Dad's last company car that I had just purchased as my first work car as he retired and I finished college.
